Crayons, A Poem by Mallory Keesler

Come dear children
Closer to the fire
Closer to where I can see you
My time has passed dear children
The end is near
But fear not
For I shall take care of you
Until the very end
I leave you not gold, or silver
But crayons
Paint me picture of the world
Dear children
Show me the joy in the world
With bright pinks, and greens
The glow of the grass
On a warm summers day
The way the sun feels on your skin
Paint me the happiness
And paint me fear
Paint me pain
Use the deep angry reds
And the sad soulful blues
Paint me the nights
Where your heart aches
Paint the world as you see it
Paint the feelings
That plague your soul
My time has passed dear children
The end is near
I shall take care of you
Not with gold, or silver
Or precious jewels and silk
Nor with all the money in the world
I leave you here with a simple box of crayons
And all the world as your canvas
